Temco H-M Parts Company was founded by Robert McCarthy in 1935 in Kansas City, MO. He began by selling bearings and magneto parts out of the trunk of his car. His customers, appreciating his large discount from OEM prices, encouraged Mr. McCarthy to add other parts from manufacturers that supplied the OEM’s. As business grew Mr. McCarthy took on a partner, George Harter, to source products and do the OEM crossovers. They named the venture H-M Parts Co., for their respective last names.
In 1945, a branch was opened in Memphis, Tennessee, which was subsequently purchased by its Southern Territory Manager Bernard McCarthy, brother of Robert McCarthy. In 1963, H-M Parts, Memphis, embarked on the TEMCO Independent Dealer Program and changed the name of the Company to TEMCO H-M Parts, Co. In 1989, control of the Company passed to Harry & Nancy Waggoner. Harry Waggoner, who managed the Memphis operation since 1974, is the son-in-law of Robert McCarthy.
